A Monarch Butterfly

A few days ago a friend told me of a mutual friend posting on Facebook about a monarch butterfly in her yard after purchasing a plant that attracts them. I love butterflies and Monarchs are endangered.

The very same day that I viewed Toni Polucki’s post about her butterfly, I was in the backyard of my mother’s place looking for an opportunity to catch one of the small birds that frequents the yard in the late morning. This elusive tiny bird was not in sight. As I was enjoying the warm morning sun, I noticed movement in my peripheral view.

There fliting around a large overgrown green bush was an adult Monarch. It landed on the plant to rest and I was able to catch several frames with my camera. #shooteverything

A feeling of mild sadness came over me as I knew I did not have any flowering plants in the yard for my visitor. I wanted to rush right out and find plants butterflies love.

As circumstances would have it, I could not go and fulfill this desire and had to postpone.

Today, June 24th, I called 3 nurseries and located one very close by here in Chatsworth, CA. The nursery is Topanga Nursery. I had never seen this lovely nursery. They told me over the phone they had Milkweed plants. Look at what I got!
