Spammers are now calling, pretending to be legit companies like PayPal or banks and convincing people to withdraw cash.
I have heard from several clients that they have lost cash money to scam phone calls. The caller pretends to be their legit bank, even showing or telling them their balance. The call is accepted as truth because of the numbers matching.
At this time I do not know how the scammers are getting this information.
What can you do?
- Hang up on the caller
- Call your bank (IMPORTANT: use the number on the back of your credit card or bank statement)
- Go to the bank in person
- Tell them of the call
- Change your password
- Change your email password
- IF necessary, get a new Credit card or account from the institution.
